Church LifeEvery Sunday morning our community gathers in a circle to be strengthened by the Word and Sacraments. This primary gathering has given rise to a variety of other circles that meet regularly for fellowship, prayer, support, study and planning. If you’re looking for a way to connect with other members of our community, join one! If you want to introduce your friends to the community of St. John’s, inviting them to one of these gatherings is a great way to let people know what we’re like as a church. Children's and Youth Groups
St. John’s has a junior youth group for children, preschool to fifth grade, that meets regularly for special projects, learning experiences, and fun events. The congregation also has a youth group for Middle School and High School that meets monthly for service projects, fellowship events, retreats, study, and community building. Lutherans Concerned/North AmericaSt. John’s is a member of the Reconciling in Christ program of Lutherans Concerned/North America, a roster of congregations in the Lutheran Church that invites gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons to participate fully in the life of the church. www.lcna.org Campus MinistrySt. John’s is located near the Emory University campus and is the link to Lutheran Campus Ministry at Emory University and Candler School of Theology. The congregation also has special ties to campus ministry at Georgia Tech and Georgia State, as well as to the Atlanta University Center. If students would like a ride to church, please contact the church office or Pastor Bradley. Full WelcomeFull Welcome meets as needed to work in the synod and in the national church for the full inclusion of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender persons. The group has written resolutions for synod assembly, organized prayer vigils, and developed a coordinated response to Pastor Brad's disciplinary hearing. Adult FellowshipRecent adult fellowship activities have included a progressive dinner, a hike and picnic at Stone Mountain, Work Days at Intown Community Assistance and for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, game nights, and a mystery night. Church NightThe church gathers quarterly on a Wednesday night to have dinner together and to discuss issues that are important in the life of the church. In the past, we have discussed the security wall in Israel, faith and politics, spirituality and singleness, property brainstorming, Holy Union and Wedding policies, environmental and materialism issues, hunger, the Three Holy Days, and family and children’s spirituality. |
